Today we discussed Chapter 16, the theme of childhood innocence versus the "phony" adult world, and Holden's fascination with the museum and his own childhood recollections. We also read and discussed a poem and short story that made some interesting connections to the themes and content of Catcher in the Rye. What similarities do you notice? What is similar between the narrator in Gideon and Holden? Do you see any thematic connections? If you were absent today, please be sure to read these two pieces as they will probably be on a quiz next week. Homework: Please have Chapter 17 read for block day, and don't forget that your first blog assignment must be posted no later than Saturday, Sept.20 at midnight.
