Today, we had a brief discussion of Chapters 1 of Lord of the Flies. We talked about our basic needs of survival and what is needed to create a functioning civilization, and how the characters in the novel are beginning to organize in order to survive (as well as the problems that are already beginning to surface). We watched a video that explains some of Golding's theories about human nature and what happens when there is an absence of a structured society. This video also analyzes some of the major characters and events in the novel and will help you when we go into some in-depth analysis next week.
