This week we will be discussing characterization and theme in Lord of the Flies. To help prepare you, visit the website below and read over the various personality types (there are four types - each one is divided into four subsets). Your posted response should include the following:
1. Decide which personality type best fits each of the following: Jack, Ralph, Simon, Piggy, and yourself. Explain why, and find evidence from the book to support your conclusion (chapters, page numbers, quote, etc.)
2. Choose one character and explain how this information helps us understand the role he plays in the story.
As always, please proofread and edit your post, write in complete sentences, and don't forget to sign your name (first name and last initial)!

1. Ralph-guardians-protector-supervisor. I think this because Ralph wants everyone to be safe and be able for everyone to get ready to be rescued from the island. He protects the littleuns from getting hurt. Chapter. 1 pg. 20-31. Chapter 2. pg.32-47. Chapter 3. pg. 50-55. Chapter 4. pg. 64-75. Chapter 5. pg. 78-94. Chapter 6. pg. 102-108. I feel that these tell about Ralph because he is a kid that wants everything to be in order and not mess up or anything.
Simon- Is the artisans-composer-promoter. I think that Simon is the artisans, composer, and promoter because he wants to keep everyone calm and make sure that there not fighting. Simon wants to help anyway he can to make sure everything is an order. He wants to be Ralph's shadow. page. 27. "we could make scratches on bark," said Simon, "and rub black stuff in." Chapter 3. pg.50-57.Chapter 4 pg. 66-73. Simon is a simply little boy that just agrees with everything.
Jack- Is the rationals-fieldmarshal-mastermind. I think that Jack is all of this because he cares about no one other than himself, his hunters, and hunting. He doesn't care about helping building huts or taking care of the fire. Chapter 2. pg. 33-47. Chapter 3 pg. 48-55. Chapter 4 pg. 64-75. Chapter 5. pg. 81-91. Chapter 6. pg. 100-108. I think Jack thinks that he is chief and that everyone has to do what he says and if they don't than he'll make you do it. I guess like in chapter 4 he made his hunters paint all of there faces and if they told him no than he still make them do it.
Piggy- Is the idealist-counselor-healer. I think this because he starts coming up with all these ideas and he wants to make sure everyone is all right. Piggy is like the little kid that wants everyone to be safe and ready to get off the island. Ch 1. pg. 16-25. Ch 2. pg. 45-47. Ch 4. pg. 73-75. Ch 5. pg. 79-94. I believe that Piggy has ideas and wants to keep people safe but no one will listen to him. They think that he is fat and that he is not important but he is like everyone else on the island.
2. The role that Piggy plays in the story is the second hand man to Ralph. This information helps us understand that Piggy plays a big part in helping Ralph get everyone to get calm and help with certain things on the island. It helps us to understand that Piggy is not some little kid that has no voice in the story but he is the idea man and person that wants everyone to have part and help. I think Piggy helps us to understand that we can have a voice like giving our opinion about the election and what issues we have in the country.
1. In my out of the of the temperants i think that Ralph would be a guardian. I think this because he is the on that would be taking care of things like the shelters and huts. Ralph is also the one who calms everyone down which means hes the one taking charge. "Ralph raised his hand for silence." In pg 23. he says "i am chief then." Ralph also know that he want to go home but he is the one keeping all of then quiet and everyhting in order.Ralph helps make the smoke of the fire and the foods.
For jack i think that he is the one that should be the rationalist o the guardian to. i chose him for this because in the begining he is the thinking it was fun to be stuck on an island but then at the same time he was the one who would be calm and knowing there gonna get off the island. He is the one that is in charge of the choir boys and hunting. according to page 23. Ralph said "The choir boys belong to you of course,""They could be the army,""or hunters." This is why i think he should be this.
I think simon would be a idealist and a artisans. In the meaning of artisan it means a person who is into art or creative and thinking of others. He is good in everyone according to the others. he is the one that makes the colors and paints the faces to blend in to go hunting with roger.
He is the one that would be most thoughful and would think of things to do. Simon goes with the flow of everyone not really thinking. He would help evertone.
I think that piggy would be the idealist because he is a small boy with asmar. Piggy couldnt really do anything other than come up with ideas. To start a fire they use his glasses to get a fire. If piggy would have an idea he would say it out and nobody would go with his idea. most of the time they giggled. In chapter 4 it says"piggy was bore;his fat, with his asmar and his matter-of-fact ideas were dull."
2. The person i choose that plays a big part in the story is Jack. he is basically the care taker with Raph. Jack would also be helping out but he really cares for himself and not for the littleuns and the shelters and fires. although jack is like this he keeps track of the choir boys and makes them hunt and help him. Jack tells us that we can be a alone worker at times but can help out alot.
1. I think Jack is the rationals, because all he cares about is, protecting, feeding, looking after, and shelter all for himself. In other words he is kind of selfish.
I think Piggy is the idealist, because he is really smart, and he comes up with all the good ideas.
I think Simmon is the artisan, because he keeps everyone in line, and makes sure everyone is okay.
I think Ralph is the guardian, because he is the leader, and makes sure everyone has a job.
I think I would be the artisan, because I like it when everything is running smoothly, and everything is in order.
2.Ralph- This information helps us understand, because it explains how each role works, and who has each part in the book. Example: Ralph- Rational- he is the leader.
1.
Jack: Rational- I think that Jack fits the description of Rational, because he is self-contained, and independent, and those are characteristics of a Rational. I think he fits those traits because he doesn’t act like he needs anyone else around to survive.
Ralph: Guardian- I think that Ralph also fits the description of Guardian, because the characteristics helpful, and hard working describe him. Helpful and hard working because he’s very helpful in trying to keep the other kids civilized, and calm (Pg.79), and he’s hard working in trying to build shelters.
Simon: Rational- I think that Simon is a Rational. I think this because it says they trust logic, and I think that Simon does too because he does not believe that there is a beastie.
Piggy: Rational- I think that Piggy is also a Rational because they are “even-tempered, and yearn for achievement”. Piggy seems pretty even-tempered because he wasn’t really even getting mad when the other boys were making fun of him (Pg.21). I think that he wants to be the leader, instead of Ralph being it, and in that way I think he yearns for achievement.
2.
I think that Ralph having the traits of a Guardian is what makes him such a good leader. It really helps having someone on the island to step up and try and make rules to keep things under control. He has good ideas, like the fire to try and get rescued that are very important and may save some of the other boys’ lives eventually.
I believe Ralph is a rationalist because he is independent, strong willed and a strategic leader. Ralph shows these traits in chapter 1 pages 17-23 when he blows the conch shell and calls for a meeting. then he comes up with the idea to vote for a leader.
I think simon is a guardian because he is dependable, helpful, and cautious. Simon shows that he is a guardian in chapter three on pages 56 and 57 when he gives the little-uns the fruit on the tree they could not reach.
I believe jack is also a rationalist because he is a firm unbending commander of his hunters. He shows his leadership when he is first introduced to the story in chapter 1 pages 20-22. He does not let the choir boys move a muscle until he finds out there is no rescue and by then one of them had already fainted.
Piggy is an idealist because he is loving of the little-uns and kind hearted. he shows he cares for everyone when he loses his temper in chapter 2 pages 45-47 and asks ralph where the little-un with the mark on his face is. He was the first one to realize and was very upset they didn't know how many people were on the island with them.
I believe I am an artisan because I love musical and mechanical arts. I also lreally like to work with my hands it helps me learn things a lot easier. working on cars and playing in band are some of my most favorite things to do
Ralphs personality helps us understand what role he plays in the story because he is the leader of all of the children on the island. In order to be a leader you should be strong willed and have ideas that are possible to accomplish. Ralph has both of these traits which makes him a good if not great leader.
Michael R.
I think Ralph has very strong leadership skills, so I would describe Ralph as a leader, supervisor and chief. I said he is like a ruler because I think deep down his best interest is for the boys. His main priority is to get rescued and to try and keep people alive till then. For example on page 50, chapter three, paragraph four, Ralph tells Jack, “Oh, hullo. Water? There by the tree. Ought to be some left.” It sounds like Ralph is being rude, or sarcastic to Jack, but he obviously cares enough about Jack to tell him where he can get some water. On page 82, Chapter seven, paragraph 4, Ralph says, “Things are breaking up. I don’t understand why. We began well; we were happy. And then-“ This goes to show that Ralph does care that everyone is getting along and that he wants them to stay together.
I think Jack is self- centered, so I’d describe him as narcissistic, and self interested. I say this because the first eight chapters all you ever hear about Jack is hunting. He didn’t care enough to help make shelter, he was more worried about redeeming himself and proving he has the capability to kill a pig. I say this because on page 37, chapter two, paragraph one, Jack says,” We’ll make sure when we go hunting.” Jack didn’t really care to hunt the beastie, he just wanted to prove he is real hunter. On page 51, chapter three, paragraph five, “Well, we haven’t gotten any yet. And we want shelters. Besides, the rest of the hunters back hours ago. They’ve been swimming.” Jack let the boys go because their tired of hunting but he stayed out just so he could prove his point.
Piggy is bright, clever and a very logical thinker. He would make a better leader than Ralph, but the one problem is leaders tend to be attractive and Piggy isn’t as attractive as Ralph. On page 99, chapter six, paragraph 3rd dialog. “We saw the beast!” “Quiet. Piggy!” Piggy knew what he was talking about and what he saw was out of the ordinary, but Ralph was quick to silence him, which he appears to do a lot. On page 42, chapter two, paragraph five, “We couldn’t keep a fire like that going, even if we tried.” Piggy had a good point that the fire would take a lot of work. Piggy think, no offense, more like a girl. Girl’s tend to think more logically about situations and Piggy acts much so like that.
Simon is thinking of others before himself. I think that Simon would also make a good leader because he is caring for others more then I think he is himself. On page 74, chapter four, paragraph four, “The twins giggled and Simon lowered his face in shame.” I said this quote because Simon doesn’t feel right eating the pig, and finds it as a last resort, and waits for everyone else to get meat. Also Simon has pulled down branches so the littleuns’ can grab some fruit.
I’d describe myself as over-thinking. I always over analyze the obvious things way more than the things I should take a closer look at. But I can’t help but be more curious about the obvious things.
Jack helps us understand that team work is probably the most important thing when it’s people stranded on an island. That you can’t so much focus on yourself as you can when you’re in civilization, you need to think about the people around you just as much as you think about yourself. Also that if you want something to work it’ll take everyone’s dedication and focus to accomplish something.
1.Ralph, I believe is a guardian. Because he takes pride inhimself and is 'background' of his family. He works hard and makes sure thekids are doing what they are suppose to be doin, and is cautious of what he's doing. Most of the time. For example in chapter one he kept telling Piggy that his father will know what had happened and will come and rescue them. He also worked hard on making the huts in chapter three.
Jack is, I believe, a rationalist. Because he is self-contained and takes pride in being strong-willed. For example, in chapter 1-2 Jack was a proper young boy who was in a choir and was basically the leader of that group. But eventually he became more obsessed with hunting like in chapter 4-5.
Piggy is an Artisan because of his focused attitude and his creativness. For example, in chapter one Piggy created the idea of the conch to call out across the island in chapter three.
And finally Simon is kindhearted and is authentic. For example, he helped Ralph make the huts in chapter 3 and he helped the littleuns as well.
And as for me I'd say I'm an artisan because I foucus on the here and now. I also dream of mastering 'action skills' in the future.
2.With Ralph this information shows us that he is that type of character. He takes a lot of pride in himself and is focused on credentials. He is very determined to get off the island and have everyone safe. He tries to keep 'laws' stable meaning he wanted all the boys to be mondern english men (which didn't work out so well). But overall he just wants to help.

1. Ralph- gaurdian- i said Ralph's persomality is gaurdian because he is the one that is a supervisor and watches over the young kids. His personality sjows that he likes for things to be in control and not get out of hand. In chapter 3 pages 50-54, it is when they are assigning roles to everyone and Ralph is assigned to watch over the kids.
Jack-rationals. I said the Jack's personality is rationals because he becomes obsessed with hunting for food and just forgets about everything. He is the intentional leader, but he thinks mostly of his own self. Chapter 4 was when he kind of took over and was really demanding towards his hunters.
piggy- idealist. I said that Piggy was an idealist because he is just kind of a friend towards everyone and helps out in all areas. he just wants to make sure that everything is going smoothly. Also, he is extremely smart and i dont think he gets enough credit for all the good ideas he has. Chapter 1 is where he plays a pretty big role because he is being introduced and it is explaining what hes all about.
Simon- Artision and rationals. I said he was artisan and rational because he is kind of a peace keeper and wants to limit all the fights and yelling and make sure that the society they are forced to live in is calm and in order. I also said he was rational because he is is a little independent sometimes. He idolizes Ralph, and just kinda follows him around and always agrees with him. Chapter 1, pg. 27
The role that Jack plays in this story is he is kind of the leader. He likes to take charge and thinks that all hid ideas will be what benefits the group as a whole. In the story, we all kind of know him as the guy who is obsessed with hunting. The desire to kill things just takes over him, which just raises his leadership position even higher. Jack doesnt really care about anything other than himself and what he is doing, which is usually hunting. He is very demanding!
Ralph- Guardian, Supervisor. Guardian Supervisors are dependable, helpful, hard-working, comfortable issuing orders and have outspoken leadership roles. Ralph was voted the chief and he wanted to be chief. He is very good with issuing orders. For example on page 23, Ralph orders Jack to be in charge of the choir which are the hunters. Ralph is also always calling meetings and assigning people to certain jobs; samneric are the fire kindlers.
Jack- Rational, Field Marshall. Rational Field Marshalls are good at accomplishing their goals, taking command, and have great devotion to jobs. Jack is always trying to accomplish his goal; killing pigs. He accomplishes this goal in chapter 4 and 7.Jack is the leader of the coir which is the hunters and that also makes him good at taking command. Jack would also not mind being the chief.
Piggy- Rational, Mastermind. A Rational Mastermind is a great problem solver, intellectual, and not quite a leader. Piggy is a great problem solver in the sake that he used his “specs” to start the fire on page 40. Throughout the whole book, Piggy is never the leader but is always just sitting back behind Ralph giving him good, smart advice.
Simon- Idealists, Healer. Idealist Healers are kindhearted, helping, and care for others. Simon is very kindhearted. He is the only member of the choir that isn’t one of the ferocious hunters. He is always helping out and caring for the littluns. On page 40, Simon picked up Piggy’s’ glasses when they fell which shows he cares for others. Simon can also seem kind of shy knowing he only shows up here and there during the book.
Simon’s personality is a big part of this book. From what we have seen so far, he is the only child not turning to savagery. He is always doing things to show he cares for the group. (Like picking up piggy’s glasses and helping with the littluns.) Simon is also the only member of the original choir to not become a hunter. This shows he had more heart than some of the hunters.
Myself- Guardian, Inspector. Guardian Inspectors are humble, serious, and dependable. I feel that I am a very humble kid, but can quickly become a leader. I have a lot of fun with friends but sometimes people say I can be very serious. I think so far in my life I have been a very dependable person.
Landon S.
1. Simon is an artisan. I think this becasue he tries to keep everyone calm and relaxed. He doesn't want or see anyone fighting. He is always in Ralph's shadow. "We should make scratches in the bark." chp. 1 pg. 27.
Ralph is the guardian. He's the guardian because he is trying to keep everybody safe. His goal is to get everyone rescued from the island. He is mostly concerned about keeping the little ones safe and making share they have food and shelter. chp. 3 pg. 50-53.
Jack is rational. I think this because he only cares and looks out for himself. He is crazy about hunting pigs. chp. 4 pg. 69 He thinks he is chief and in charge of everyone. He acts like the boss of everyone, even Ralph. chp. 6 pg 100-108.
Piggy is the idealist. He is idealist because he thinks everything can be solved by science or things can be explained scientificly. Piggy is like Ralph because he also wants the little ones and everybody elseto be safe. chp. 2 pg 16-25. chp. 4 pg. 45
I am a guardian. I am a guardian because I do want people to be safe. I care about others. I would make sure that people in order and safe from harm.
2. Ralph is the guardian. He is the guardian because he is trying to keep everyone safe. This information helps understand him because he takes charge and keeps people in order.
1.Jack-the Artsins(promoters, crafters, performers, composers). I think that Jack is an Artsin, because in the description it says that they dream of mastering action skills and throught the book Jack loves the action and intesity of hunting. (Chapter 4 pgs.69-70)Jack gets to obsesed with hunting and forgets about the fire. He only cares about himself and has not helped Jackwith any of the shelters of wachting over the little ones.
Piggy- the Rationanls (inventors, fieldmarshals, materminds, artchitects)I think that piggy is a Rational, because one of the charicteristics it stated was problem-solving and strong willed. No matter how many times Piggy gets picked on he still lets his voice be heard.(chapter 2 pgs.44-47)piggy clearly has the conch and still people aren't respecting the rules, so piggy has to let his ideas be heard theough all the laughs and mean remarks.
Ralph- the Gaurdian(supervisors, protecters, providers, inspectors) i think Ralph is a Gaurdian, because they are dependable,hard-working,and helpful. I think those are the main charicteristics of Ralph in genral. He helps build the huts(chapter 3 pgs. 50-57)and take care of the little ones (pg.57) and he was elected leader, becuase people think that he can make the best decisions and rules. All together he is a ruthless leader that strives for the better side of things.
Simon- the Idealist (teachers, counselors, champions, healers)simon is definaltly an Idealist, because he is kindhearted and very smart. i think he wants to be more like Ralph, so he helps him out how ever and when ever he needs it.(chapter 3 pgs.50-53) Sometimes he even throws out his ideas, but they aren't always heard(chapter 5 pg.89). I think that he is the quiet leader who does what he is suppose to and bulids off of other ideas.
Me- the Idealist
I think of myself as an idealist, because I am kindhearted and have many ideas and strong opinions about certian things. I strive to be a better person and live life to the fullest.
2.I think the information about Ralph tells us that the role he plays in the story is that he may be a leader, but sooner or later most people are going to turn against him. Some break the rules and others will stand by his side through the think and thin. Kind of like how people look at a president or leader of some sort.
1. Ralph is a guardian-supervisor-provider-protector. I think Ralph is this because Ralph cares about everyone on the island and their safety. He wants everyone to get rescued and takes charge in all situations. On pg. 23, Ralph says "I'm chief then." and he starts to take control of the group. Ch.2, Ralph calls everyone and comes up with a plan to get rescued. Finally, on pg.79, Ralph says "We need an assembly not for fun. not for laughing and falling off the log... not for making jokes of for...for cleverness. Not for these things. But to put things straight." Ralph wants everything to be in order and everyone to pitch in to help and get rescued.
Jack is a rationals-fieldmarshal-mastermind-supervisor. I think this about Jack because he wants to lead and is very good at coming up with plans to kill pigs. Jack wants to be the chief and run everything his own way. On pg. 22, Jack says "I ought to be chief... because I'm chapter chorister and head boy." Also, in ch. 3 pg. 48-54, Jack is hunting for pig and doesn't care about the fire. Ch. 4, Jack comes up with the idea to paint their faces, so they can sneak up on the pigs. Jack doesn't care about being rescued, he only cares about killing pigs, and leading the hunters.
Simon is a idealist-healer-artisan-composer. Simon is very shy, but takes direction and likes hanging out with Ralph. He cares about being rescued and about other people. Simon is also a hard worker. Also, Simon is a very kind person. On pg.21-22, it talks about Simon. It says "There was a slight, furtive boy whom no one knew, who kept to himself with an inner intensity of avoidance and secrecy. On pg. 50, Ralph and Simon are working on the shelters by themselves to get them done. Pg.71, "He went crouching and feeling over the rocks but Simon, who got there first, found them for him." Simon wants to help and be friends with everyone.
Piggy is an idealists-counselor-healer-teacher. Piggy is sensitive, cares about others welfare, smart and can be kind of shy. He is always being made fun of by Jack. Pg.16-17, he tells Ralph all about the conch and how to blow into it. On pg.25, Piggy said "You told'em. After what I said." Piggy was very hurt that everyone was laughing at him. Ch.2pg.45-47, Piggy is sharing his ideas about the fire, but people are rude. He is trying to contribute to the group, but no one cares. In ch. 2, Piggy asks people their names, and is getting involved. He is a good speaker, and likes things to be organized.
I am a supervisor-healer and promoter.
2. The role that Ralph plays in this story is leader. This information helps us understand that Ralph is a good leader, cares about being rescued, and cares about the other boys on the island. Ralph is not just some "fair-haired" boy, he takes responsibility for all the boys and wants to make sure that they are all safe. Ralph helps us understand that anyone can be a good leader if they try and we are able to get things done if we put our mind to it.
1. Simon- I find Simon an architect rational. Simon keeps to himself, but is still the smartest on the island next to Piggy. An architect works hard and tirelessly to get something accomplished. On page 54 in Chapter 3 Ralph states, “And I work all day, with nothing but Simon…!” It shows that Simon is a realist at what’s happening on this island already, and that they need shelters. Someone who is a rational normally keeps to himself and dreams of how the world works. On page 57 in Chapter 7, Simon goes out into the like-woods while Jack and Ralph are still arguing about hunting and huts. You don’t see any speech from Simon, but he finds a place to himself where he just sits and admires the beautiful island he is on, despite all the chaos going on. He makes sure that he is alone before he does so, for that a rational is self contained.
Piggy- I find Piggy a healer idealist. Piggy is the smartest boy on this island, but isn’t given a chance due to how he presents himself and the fact that he is quite the pushover. A healer has a strong sense of what is wrong and right. Piggy has said many times that the boys need to do this or that, but is talking to deaf ears. He always has an idea on what to do. All of these personality traits Piggy pursues are found to be an Idealist. The other boys don’t pay attention to him though for they just make fun of him no even if Piggy as the conch, like on page 42. Piggy says, “I got the conch, you let me speak!” The boys still go on talking, ignoring Piggy’s strategies on what’s going wrong on the island.
Ralph- I find Ralph definitely a supervisor guardian. He is hard working, focused and in charge. Most of my opinions on why I would think that he is a guardian and a supervisor are in Chapter one. They are voting for a chief and trying to get a good idea on what the island is like. Ralph seems to be respected after being voted for, although not as respectful. He was the first one to take responsibility which is why I find him a supervisor as well. It is always Ralph’s idea to have a meeting, and a supervisor is known to be good at making plans and schedules.
Jack- I find Jack am inspector guardian. Jack is strong-willed and goes after his duties. In Chapter 1 and 3 he even has an argument with the chief Ralph that he should be in charge, and that his duty should be fulfilled before he does anything else. On page 92 Jack yells at Ralph, “Who cares?!” when breaking the conch talking rule because he finds his opinion to be what’s right, and not what everyone else finds right. Guardians are known for not paying attention to law and order when they think they know what is best. Jack seems to think that the rules don’t apply to him at times. Inspectors can be seen as hard-nosed and even heartless. With the things Jack does on the island I find that he can be portrayed as an inspector due to how he acts sometimes.
Me- I think that I am promoter artisan. The words that Keirsey uses to describe a promoter artisan I find most relate to me. For artisan, I think that I pursue: trusting my gut feeling, the want to be where the action is, fun, athletic, spontaneous and bold. I’d rather not wait for the good things, but want them now. Keirsey uses the quote, “today must be enjoyed for tomorrow might not come,” to describe an artisans view. I have used this saying before, and agree completely with it. For the break off of artisan, I think that I am more a promoter. I find myself to pursue: the want for the finer things in life, daring at heart, optimistic, risk taking to get what they want, and the need for nothing to be dull surrounding me.
2. Ralph’s personality type is found to be the most useful to use to try and understand in the book. As a guardian in general, that gives you so much information on him in the novel. A guardian is in charge and has a strong sense of authority. Ralph is portrayed as the chief of all the boys on the island. He tells people what to do, and has reasons to back up his suggestions. He’s showed the most passion for getting rescued, and I think that it’s a concrete idea for a guardian. Ralph talk’s reality and does what is right.
Ralph=guardian because it says he makes a good leader and people trust them. chapter 1 pg 22-23. They are serious about their duties and responsiblitities. Chapter2 pg 32-47. I think these characteristicstell about ralph because the littleuns follow him and he takes being a leader very seriously. He also get on some of the other boys when they don't do their duties.
Piggy=idealist because he believes that freindly confrontation is the best way. chapter5 pg 83-84 Also he doesn't like confrontation. chapter 5 pg 93. I think these charcateristics tell that piggy is the logical thinker who doesn't like fighting and thinks friendliness is the way to go.
simon=artisians because he likes to go off alone in the woods which is risky. chapter 3 pgs 56-57
Also he likes to help ralph get things going. chapter 3 pg 54. These characteristics mean that simon is someone who is helpful but also likes to take risks.
Jack=rational because he is a tactical leader. chapter4 pgs 74-75 Also he likes to be leader or fieldmarshall. chapter1 pgs 22-23 Jack also likes the responsibilty of being a hunter. chapter 5 pg 83
These mean that jack likes to command people.
I think i would be more of the mastermind. I like being in charge but am not eager to be in charge. I van think fast and usually have good ideas but don't always like to jump at the idea of being in charge.
The role that ralph plays is the main man. This information helps use to understand that ralph is the leader. That he likes to help everyone and takes his job as leader seriously. And that he isn't stuck up and excepts help from others.
1. I think Ralph is guardian inspector. Ralph is aware of the littluns on the island, and he tries his best to look after them. Also, he believe that in order for the society on the island to work, they need to have rules and schedules that everyone obeys. "We need and assembly. Not for fun. Not for laughing and falling off the log"-the group of littluns on the twister giggled and looked at eachother-"not for making jokes, or for"-he lifted the conch in an effort to find the compelling word-"for cleverness. Not for these things. But to put things straight" (Chapter 5. Page 79)"They talk and scream. The littluns. Even some of the others. As if-" "As if it wasn't a good island." (Chapter 3. Page 52)When the group did not take the meetings and rules seriously, Ralph lectured them, and when he noticed the littluns fear of the island, he tried to help by building forts.
I think Piggy is a guardian protector and provider. Piggy cares for the littluns and he also supports and helps out Ralph lead the group. "There was no need! Now there is. Piggy'll look after them" (Chapter 6. Page 101)"About being called Piggy. I said I didn't care as long as they didn't call me Piggy. I said not to tell and then you went an' said straight out-" (Chapter 1. Page 25) Piggy is considerate and protects the littluns, but at the same time, Piggy is also cares what others think of him.
I think Simon is a idealist healer. Simon is quiet and keeps to himself, but Simon understands right from wrong and ethics. "I'll go if you like. I don't mind, honestly." (Chapter 7. Page 117) "Simon spoke from inside the shelter. "Up a bit." (Chapter 3. Page 50. Simon is imdependent and does not mind doing tasks alone, and Simon is willing to help wherever needed.
I think Jack is a artisan composer and crafter. Jack has grown to know the island and where everything is just by hunting. He also has an obsessive behavior for hunting. Everything he does has to do with hunting. He is able to use tools to his advantage when hunting. "For hunting. Like in the war. You know-dazzle paint. Like things trying to look like something else-" He twisted the in the urgency of telling, "-Like moths on a tree trunk." (Chapter 4 Page 63) "Unwillingly Jack answered, "There's only one-but of course! You remember? The tailend part, where the rocks are all piled up. I've been nearthere. The rock makes a sort of bride. There's only one way up." (Chapter 6 Page 103) Ralph is very aware of his surroundings and skilled at hunting.
I think I am a idealist champion. I love talking with others and sharing stories of past experiences. In addition, I like to be unique and different, stand out, and not do what every one else is. I am always prepared for what is coming, and I like to look on the bight side of things.
2. Simon is a quiet, yet intelligent asset to the group. This helps me understand Simon's role in the story because he understands right from wrong, so I think he is going to realize the danger Jack is to the group. Also, I am guessing that he is going to try and tell Ralph, but he is going to be rejected. Simon symbolizes the good in the group and he is extremely wise for his age. Simon also shows us the faults in the society.
Ralph is a guardian. He always seeks security, it’s always for the group, and he is concerned about citizens who trust authority. In chapter 5 he is all about keeping the group. He is also dependable, helpful, and hard working. In chapter 3 he and Simon build all three shelters. This shows all the characteristics of Ralph.
Piggy is an idealist. He always puts his opinion, and it’s always form the group. It’s not always heard but he still puts his opinion in. In chapter 5 also, Piggy tries to speak but Jack interrupts him.
Simon is a ratonals. He is self contained and independent, like in chapter 3 Simon is walking on the beach alone, thinking. In chapter 4 he helps Ralph build the shelters. This shows me that he is yearning for achievement.
Jack is an Artisan. He is focused on hear and now. All he thinks about is hunting and not about the future. In Chapter 4 all he talks about is hunting and not the issues. In chapter 3 he is too worked up on hunting to help with the shelters. In chapter 2 he is too worked up on hunting too keep the fire going.

1. Ralph- According to the Four Temperaments the personality trait that I think best fits Ralph is the Guardian. Guardians are dependable and hard working. They are also dutiful, cautious, and believe in Law and Order. In the first chapter on page 23 the group of boys elected Ralph to be their chief. Ralph assigned duties and put together some rules and laws that everyone had to follow. As a guardian a trait is a Provider which is someone who takes it upon themselves to insure the health and welfare of those in their care. Since Ralph was appointed chief he made sure that everyone had food by appointing designated hunters put into Jack's authority on page 23. He also built shelters for everyone on page 5o in chapter 7.
Simon- The best personality trait that fits Simon is the Idealist. A trait of an idealist that I think fits Simon perfectly is the role of a Counselor who has a strong desire to contribute to the welfare of others. "Simon found for them the fruit they could not reach, pulled off the choicest from up in the foliage, passed them back down to the endless, outstretched hands." This quote on page 56 in chapter 3 really shows how much Simon cares about the "littluns" and how he was willing to get them food first before himself.
Piggy- Piggy, in my opinion, is the Rationalist. They tend to be skeptical and focused on problem solving. Piggy isn't the one who jumps into things, he is always the more rational one and thinks and plans things out rather than just does them. The two main traits that I think best fits Piggy of the rationalist are the inventor and the mastermind. "We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. They'll come when they hear us-." This quote on page 16 in chapter 1 I think fits both of these traits because he used the shell as a tool to bring everyone on the island to one spot to have a meeting.
Jack- Jack I think is the Artisan because they tend to be more focused on the here and now. I think this applies to Jack because on the island is real only concern is hunting and catching a pig. He doesn't really care much about how they are going to be rescued or how they are even going to get off the island. "There was a ship. Out there. You said you would keep the fire going and you let it out!" "You and your blood Jack Merridew! You and your hunting! We might have gone home-." This quote on page 70 in chapter 4 is a prime example of how Jack's only concern is of hunting and not of finding a way to get home, which is the real concern.
Myself- I personally feel that the personal trait out of the Four Temperaments that best fits me is Idealist. I feel that I am more like an Idealist because they are concerned with their personal growth and always want to learn more. Well that is how I am in school, I am always striving to do my very best in each class and I am always looking for more ways to learn as much about a subject that I can. I can also sometimes seem shy to people who don't know me very well, and I am always looking for ways to help people, and striving to put their needs before my own.
2. Simon’s role in the story is kind of like the really calm shy boy who really helps anyone in need. This information helped me really understand his role because using these traits you can really tell and recognize the personality of each character and how they affect each person in the story. For instance Ralph and Simon were the only ones to help build the shelters while everyone else was off doing their own thing. Simon also helped all of the “littluns” get food from the tree even though he went to the forest to just get his own food, but instead he put the needs of the littluns before the needs of himself. Simon is a very generous and caring character in the story that is always looking out for others, and putting their needs before his.
Chloe R.
1. I think Ralph is a guardian-inspector. He is very dependable, and wants to make sure all the rules are obeyed, laws followed, and standards respected, but still cares about others. Like in the book when he is concerned about knowing how many littluns he has, and when he establishes the conch rules and assigns jobs to certain people. (chapter 2)
I think Simon is an idealist-counselor. He is interested in helping others, he is kind-hearted, and a great listener. Like when he helps Ralph with building the shelters and when he helps the littluns get fruit from a tree that is out of their reach. (chapter 3)
I think Jack is an artisan-promoter and crafter. He is bold, adventurous, and uses tools. Like when he goes out and explorers the whole island. He also takes on the role of leading the hunters and managing the fire. Later he makes spears and paints his face using them as tools for hunting. (chapters: 1,2, and 4)
I think Piggy is a rational-mastermind. He is not eager to take on the job of the leader, like in the book when they are choosing a leader he doesn't try to mention his own name (chapter 1). He also wants to move forward by talking about how being rescued is one of the most important things they should be focusing on (chapter 1).
I think I am a rational-mastermind like Piggy because in the situation of picking a leader I would not volunteer myself and I would use logic to solve problems.
2. The role Simon plays in the story would be the goodness in the group of boys and in society. He is the only one out of the boys that is purely kind and helpful. He tries to keep everyone happy, listening to their problems, and helping out in any way he can. If he ever left then I think things would turn ugly and chaotic.

Ralph- Ralph is mostly a guardian but also is slightly rational. To be a guardian you need to be a hard worker, loyal, and look out for others. Ralph, shows this by focusing to get everyone off the islsand. He also realizes, with the help of piggy, that they need to find food, shelter, water, and fire. Pg. 25-44, 53, 80-94, and 106. Also rational becasue he knows there is a problem and he is going to fix it.
Piggy- Piggy is a huge rational. He defiantly knows what to do inorder to survive. But since he isn't the leader he tells everything to Ralph. Piggy is a preety shy kid in some sense, but also isn't. which is why he way not resemble a rational. Like in the beggining when he would follow Ralph and talk to him. But piggy definatly knows right from wrong, and would actualy be the better leader in this situation.
Jack- Jack has many traits that resemble an idealist. Though he isn't soft and kind hearted he defiantly seeks self-interest, rather than the common good. In the story all he wants to do is hunt and kill the pigs. Other things like making shelter and fire dont really recieve much attention from him. Even though he is getting the group food, that is only a small ingredient to the survival of the group.
Simon- Simon is very much a rational. He is a quiet boy that seems to be nice to everyone. He helps the little boys get fruit and even helps with the shelters. Simon is very quiet and self contained. But he knows how to treat everyone with respect. Respect, is something that he can teach to the boys. Hopefully his ways will rub off onto the other boys.
ME,& I- I see myself more as an Artisan. Artisans like to work with their hands and that is what makes them happy. I love to play sports and be active. Which is just slightly different because i use my whole body. I am also pretty artistic and have crazy ideas and pictures in my head. this also mimics an Artistan.
2. Simon- Simon is the quiet, helpful, and respectful boy in the story. He is almost the only boy so far that doesn't show all this evil and self interest. I believe that he is in this story to represent the good in people. Instead of just showing the act of evil, Golding is also showing the loving and respectful side of human beings. Maybe he will show that the good in people, if used correctly, can wipe away the evil that lots of humans poses. Simon, could just be the one to save these boys from total chaos.
TYLER F!! :D
Ralph is a rational fieldmarshal. He was chosen to lead, and fieldmarshals are usually chosen to lead. He is always planning and trying to get the things that need to be done, done. For example, on pages 67-74, he talks about how important the fire is and really tries to convince everyone that fire should be the #1 concern at the time. On pages 78-92 Ralph calls an assembly and tries very hard to restore order. Finally, he (along with Simon) was the only one that really worked on all three shelters, and fieldmarshals will work tirelessly to make sure something gets done.
Jack is also a rational fieldmarshal. Jack likes taking charge, and like all fieldmarshal’s, he likes being executive. On page 127, Jack says, “I’m going off by myself. He can catch his own pigs. Anyone who wants to hunt when I do can come too.” showing that he really wants power, and can’t stand still for long without saying or doing something that proves that he’s a leader. Also, Jack talked so much about killing a pig that (on page 55) he almost says that he won’t want to leave until he kills a pig, showing that he works very hard at what he’s doing.
Simon is an idealist healer. He is always trying to help people. In chapter 3, page 56 William Golding says, “…Simon found for them the fruit they could not reach, pulled off the choicest from up in the foliage, passed them back down to the endless, outstretched hands. When he had satisfied them he paused and looked round. The littluns watched him inscrutably over double handfuls of ripe fruit.” He didn’t have to help the littluns, but he did like an idealist healer would. Also, he comforts the littluns when they are afraid. Finally, he cares about what Ralph thinks of him (page 143) and is shy around most of the boys on the island.
Piggy is a rational mastermind because he knows what needs to be done and knows (or at least thinks he knows) how it should be done. When the boys set fire to the island in chapter 2, he tells them off for not thinking and planning. He says, “That little’un that had a mark on his face-where is-he now? I tell you I don’t see him…-where is he now?” Piggy is smart and demonstrates it a lot in chapter 1 when first talking to Ralph about things like, “a conch; ever so expensive. I bet if you wanted to buy one, you’d have to pay pounds and pounds and pounds-he had it on his garden wall, and my auntie-” Also, on the same page, (16) he tells Ralph to call all of “the others” with the conch.
I am a rational mastermind because I can grasp how each step (in a series of steps or stages) leads to the next naturally, and in the back of my head I am always coming up with ways to get around an obstacle if one is discovered. I am always looking for the most efficient way to do things, since I have limited time for most things in life like homework. In groups I will take charge, but not right away because I like to hear what people say or think they should do. Also, I always work hard to accomplish my goals.
Ralph’s role in the story is to lead everyone. He is almost perfect as a leader, and in the areas that he isn’t, Piggy makes up for it. Ralph wants the ultimate goal: to survive and leave the island, and is usually making sure that the path to that goal is followed. He is a good leader, and can inspire people (at least for a time) to get things done. Ralph is trying his best to make everyone stay together and survive, even though Jack is making it very hard for him. As a 12-year-old leader, Ralph is one of the best.
Jack:
--Artisan:
• Jack is an artisan because he likes having freedom, and he dreams of mastering his action skills. Also he is focused on here and now and not what is going on in the future. Jack takes control by saying that he was going to kill a pig for food. Another thing that proves this is that jack always takes control but he doesn’t do a very good job of it, so this now represents the instinct within human beings.
Ralph:
--Guardian:
• Ralph is a guardian because he is dependable, helpful, and hard-working. Guardians also tend to follow tradition and keep structure is the sisocity. Why Ralph fits this category is because he attempts to build a miniature civilization on the island until they can be rescued. Ralph also wants humans to be civilized opposed to savages tike Jack supports.
Simon:
--Idealist:
• Idealists are loving, and kindhearted. The reason that Simon is an idealist is because he is just a shy, sensitive boy and he is in some ways portrayed as the good character in the book. Simon is very caring toward the little kids and is willing to help improve their little sisoity. He also doesn’t let his personal views on life get in the way of the other kids.
Piggy:
--Rational:
• Piggy is giving, trusting, and is focused on high potentials. Why this fits Piggy is because piggy is very smart and that is not very common on this island. Hi is using his brain to get the boys out of tough situations and usually succeeds. Piggy is VERY trust worthy and can be counted on to get them out of sticky situations.
1. Ralph is the guardian-protector. I believe this because Ralph’s main goal is to provide safety and security for the rest of the boys on the island. Also, Ralph spends most of his time making sure the littleuns are all safe and calm. He’s also very responsible about the whole situation on the island. Chapter one, The Sound of the Shell, is a good example of how Ralph is the guardian-protector because in this chapter the boys vote Ralph as chief which his how Ralph started to protect the rest of the boys on the island.
Simon is the rational-architect because he was one of the main characters that helped build the huts for everyone on the island. I also think this because he worked his hardest on the huts with Piggy and Ralph while the other boys except the littleuns hunted for food. Chapter three can explain how Simon is the rational-architect because most of the chapter is about how they begin to build the huts for shelter.
Jack is the artisan-crafter. I think this because Jack starts hunting pigs with the other choir boys and becomes a master at hunting and using the spears to kill the pigs for there food. Jack also becomes mentally obsessed with hunting which is how he mastered using his spear. Chapter four, Painted Faces and Long Hair explains how Jack is the artisan-crafter because it shows how Jack and the choir boys started out hunting.
Piggy is the idealist-counselor. I think this because he makes new ideas for the whole group of boys so that they can survive. This matches the idealist-counselor because he cares for the welfare of others so they become one step closer to getting off the island. Chapter three mostly explains this because it shows one of Piggy’s ideas of making the huts so that everyone has a place to sleep at night.
2. The role Ralph plays in the story is the leader of all of the boys. This helps us understand that Ralph is one of the most important people in the book, The Lord of the Flies because he does the most for all of the boys in the story and shows all of the boys what they need to do to survive and be rescued. This is important because he is trying to keep motivation and confidence between all of the characters so that everyone can return safely to their normal lives.
1. Ralph- guardians: protector and supervisor. I think Ralph represents these types of people because he is an overall leader. He makes sure that everyone as a whole is protected and isn't looking out for just himself. I think Chapter 5 is strongest in showing how he protects the littluns, and is concerned about the safety of others.
Jack-artisans: promoter. This temperament describes an artisan as someone who is spontaneous, bold, and a troubleshooting leader. Throughout the book Jack envies Ralph for being a leader, but I still believe he shows characteristics of leadership. pg. 102 "This is a hunter's job." pg. 83 "He was a hunter all right. No one doubted that." These quotes show that he is solely concerned on hunting, and providing for the group. While at the same time he is spontaneous and bold and going by what he wants to do, not what Ralph tells him to.
Simon-artisans: composer. Simon is an artisan because he is continuously optimistic, and has a better sense than anyone of what's right and what is wrong. The beginning of Chapter 7, Simon and Ralph have a discussion about being rescued. "I just think you'll get back all right." (pg. 111) Simon clearly represents the goodness in everyone, because even though they are trapped, on an island, and the rest of the boys seem pretty hopeless, Simon is the one to look on the brighter side of situations, and help those who don't.
Piggy- rationals: mastermind. I think Piggy is all about logic, and rationality. If the boys are not orderly and proper, Piggy will find some plan to fix things. In the first chapter, he helped Ralph to build their own government, where they have rules, and a leader. It says that rationals have research before creating any plan, and Piggy always has background knowlege before he says something.
I think I am a artisan because I am always optimistic and thinking in the moment, not into the future.
2. This information helps us understand Jack's role, because it explains that he is a natural leader, and by having Ralph violate that he acts the way he does. In Chapter 5 especially, Ralph calls an assembly, and it is clear that by how much Jack argues in this chapter as well as through the entire book that he is jealous of Ralph's position.
I think Ralph is a protector in the guardian section. This is because he does have a certain amount of responsibility since he’s chief (Chap. 1, pages 22 and 23). He wants the kids to be safe, but more importantly, he has certain things that come first, and never change on the priority list, like the fire.
Piggy is an architect under the rationalist section. Piggy is incredibly intelligent and looks at society and life as scientific, just like architects think (Chap. 5, page 84). Here he was trying to tell the littluns that there was nothing to be afraid of and life was scientific.
Jack is more of an inventor in the rationalist section. When you think about Jack, he is always trying to come up with new rules, and forget about Ralph’s. He wants to hunt, and do new things everyday. He came up with the idea of surrounding the pig I a circle (Chap. 4, page 69). He was the one that ran the hunts.
Last, but not least, Simon is a counselor under the idealist section. Simon represents the good in people. He helps not just the the littluns a lot (Chap. 3, page 56), but whoever needs help. Anytime that Ralph was feeling he shouldn’t be chief, Simon would tell him that he was doing fine, and to stay with it. He is always giving good advice.
Jack is a rational. I believe this because rationals pride themselves in being strong and independent, and think that their way is the best way. They also believe that they can solve any problem at hand, which is exactly what Jack thinks he can with the beast. Jack also doesn't like the fact that Ralph is in charge instead of him.
Ralph is an Artisian because he is realistic and is focused at the task at hand. The task at hand right now is getting off the island, and Ralph is really focused on keeping the fire lit at all times just in case they needed to signal to a boat or plane.
Simon is an Idealist. He is an Idealist because he is loving and good and nice. He helps the littluns and agrees with anything. He is also focused on his own journies. He goes off on his own all the time in the forest.
Piggy is a Guardian. I believe he is a Guardian because he is more important than he gets credit for. He is smart and tries to get himself heard, but no one really listens except Ralph. He is also cautious about new things, and he believes in law and order.
I am more of an Idealist because I am kind to others and am focused on my own journies in life.
Piggy has an important role in the story because he is smart, but he doesn't get heard. He's also there to help contain order with Ralph, and to give out ideas. He needs to be a Guardian to Ralph because Ralph has authority and Piggy can get himself heard through Ralph.
1. Jack: Artisan
-Jack is an artisan because he likes having freedom and he dreams of mastering his own action skills. He is also focused on the here and now, not what is going to happen in the future. Jack takes control by saying that he was going to kill a pig for meat. Another thing that may prove this would be that Jack always wants control but doesnt do a great deal in keeping that control. This now may represent the common instinct with human beings.
Piggy: Rational
-Piggy is a rational because he is trusting, giving, and focused on high potentials. This fits Piggy because he is very intelligent and that is not very common on the island. I say Piggy is very trustworthy on the island and he is the one you would turn to to get the group out of tough situations. This is because he uses his brain to get the groups of boys out of trouble.
Simon: Idealist
-Simon is an idealist because he is shy and keeps to himself. He is given the "good boy" sterotype in this book. He is the most caring toward the little kids. And he usually won't let his personal life get in the way when he is trying to help the others.
Ralph: Guardian
-Ralph is the Guardian because he is the one you can depend on to be helpful and hard-working. I think Ralph fits this description becausr he trys to make the group work out into a sort of civilization of children, until they can be rescued. He wants this group to be a civilized group not a bunch of rebels and savages.
Demetria M. :D
1.Ralph: Ralph is a superviser/ feildmarshal. He is immediatly named leader, and has the thought process of one as well (pg 76). He can make everone listen to what he has to say and obey the rules he lays down. His main prioity is to get everyone rescued and safely off the island (pg 53). Ralph is mainly the responsible one and believes the other boys should do their part in providing nececities; such as shelters (pg 49-50) He often gets upset at Jack for taking all of the kids to go hunting rather than taking care of the signa fire and othejobs assigned to them.
Piggy:Piggy is the inspector. He is also Ralphs right hand man. Piggy trie to enforce fairness and laws set by Ralph, but is often shouted down and goes unnoticed and unappreciated (pg 46). Piggy, however, still gives Ralph great advice when dicision time comes.
Jack: Jack is a promoter/champion. He is always interested in something excitiong or dangerous and tends to neglect responsibility and the common wellfare of all of the boys. Jack enjoys the thrill of the hunt and also thrills in telling the other boys about his heroics when slaughtering the pig.
Simon: Simon is the counselor. He always looks at the good things in life and tries to help whenever and where ever he can. " Then amid the roar of the bees in the afternoon sunlight, Simon found for them [the littluns] the fruit the could not reach, pulled off the choiciest from up in the foliage, passed them back down to the endless, outstreched hands." (pg 56) Simon does often seek time alone to think , relax, and cool off. (pg 56-57)
2.Jack Ralph are the two major characters in the story. Basically, the are the two conflicting sides, in a battle for power and dominence. Jack is more self-thinking while Ralph ids more for the group as a whole. When Jack starts to get caight up in hunting he starts causing major problems for Ralph, and in the end they just couldn't work together because of the ropposing personalities and priorities.

p.3
1. Ralph- The guardian-protector, I think that Ralph is a guardian because he is the one in the story that steps up and takes charge. He is the one that knows that if they don’t do everything in their power to get rescued, they will die. He shows his leadership skills in Ch. 1 pg.23 “….we must be rescued straight away, everybody must stay around here and wait and not go away.”
Jack- the Rationalist- mastermind-I think that Jack is a rationalist because he is very self-contained and becomes obsessed with bloodlust and killing. He doesn’t show much interest for anything else, and doesn’t care very much for being rescued. He shows this in Ch. 3. Pg. 53 when he and Ralph were talking about the problems and he says “Rescue? Yes, of course! All the same, I’d like to catch a pig first” this shows that he would rather catch a pig first rather than be rescued.
Simon- the Artisan- I think that Simon is an artisan because he is the character in the story that makes you feel hope. He is one of the only ones that shows compassion for the littluns and wants what best for them. He is also smart; he shows this in ch.3 pg. 52. When he says “you’ve noticed haven’t you? ….. Well, they’re frightened”
Piggy- the Idealist-teacher, I think that Piggy is an idealist because he is the other character in the story that is loving and kind-hearted, but not only that, he is also very smart. He is the one that advises Ralph in his decisions, and although Ralph would rather not listen to him, he knows that piggy is the smarter one and can keep them alive.
Me- The Artisan, I think I am an artisan because I am not the type of person to sit quietly all day and listen; I like to be spontaneous and do unpredictable things.
2. I think that this information on Piggy helps us understand his role in the book because this helps us know why piggy is the way he is. Piggy is kind of under the shadow of Ralph, but without him, things would have gone a lot worse.
1.
I believe that jack is Guardian/Providers because he is hard working to ensure the health of others by hunting the wild boars and always states that he will hunt down the beasty for the littuns.
I think ralph is a guardian as well because in chapter 1 he (after finding the conch and summoning all the kids) he comes up with the idea of voting for leader which he later wins because most of the kids see him a dependable, helpful, and hard-working leader.
I believe that Simon is a rationalist because is strong willed and always believes in what he thinks because he never believes in the beasty even when everyone else did.
I think that Piggy is an idealist because he always comes up with the good ideas but he never gets any credit for them.
I think that I’m a Rationalist/mastermind because I always like to have a back up plan at least 1 if not 2. And I like to have things go in step by step order although it usually doesn’t.
2.I think the information form Ralph helps us understand how he truly wishes to get off the island and tries to have everyone into certain jobs and he makes laws so they don’t fall into complete chaos after all they are Englishmen.
I believe Ralph is a guardian. I think this because Ralph, for one is elected leader of the Island Chapter 1 pg. 22-23. He also want's to make sure everyone on the island is safe, secure, and eventually rescued. And these are all characteristics of a guardian.
I believe Simon is an Idealist. Simon is always doing the right thing whether that's helping the littluns, or helping Ralph run the place. Simon is always promoting the common good. And that's pretty much what Idealists do.
I believe jack is an Artisan. Jack want's a lot of action with his hunting and all and pretty much does it whenever he want's. He is obsessed with hunting and killing a pig. Artisans also believe that there next chance will believe the lucky one and Jack keeps saying next time I will kill the pig. Chapter 3.
Piggy is a Rational in my opinion. He is skeptic on everything and wants to make sure everthing is done the way it should be. Piggy is also pretty smart and helps Jack out a lot in leading the island.
2.Piggy is an interesting character. He is pretty much 2nd in command and is Ralphs advisor. Piggy helps represent the good and order on the island and without him everything would fall apart. He is the brains of the operation you could say.
1. Ralph-the gaurdian. I think this because he only wants the best for everybody on the island and he sticks to the rules that they first layed down when they arrived on the island. plus Ralph is the kind of character who doesn't like everything so chaotic.
Piggy-the idealist. I think this because he starts coming up with all these ideas and he wants to make sure everyone is alright and safe. Piggy is like the little kid that everyone (except Jack) loves and doesn't want hurt.
Simon-the artisan. I think this because he wants to keep everyone calm and make sure there are no fights. Simon wants just make sure everybody suvives and gets off the island. plus (like piggy) he is like Ralph's shadow.
Jack-the rational. I think this because he cares about no one other than himself and hunting. He doesn't care about helping to try and build the shelters or taking care of the fire. like in the book when ralph sees the plane and it doesn't see them because the fire is out, jack just says, "we'll build another fire. there'll be more planes."
Me-gaurdian. i think this because i am good at looking after people and things. and i guess i'm also good at getting people to do what i say and people always tell me that others look up to me?
2. Ralph being the guardian helps understand him because gaurdians take charge, keep people in order, and care about other's safety just like he does.
